Accelerated Resolution Therapy
The A.R.T. of Rapid Recovery
“Keep the Knowledge, Lose the Pain”
What Is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (A.R.T.)?
Accelerated Resolution Therapy ( A.R.T. ) is a breakthrough approach to psychotherapy that helps clients resolve trauma and emotional distress—often in just one session. Unlike traditional talk therapy, A.R.T. empowers you to change how distressing memories are stored in your brain, without needing to share the details of your experience.
How Does A.R.T. Work?
A.R.T. uses calming eye movements and guided visualization to help you replace painful images and sensations with ones that feel safe and empowering. This process allows your brain to “keep the knowledge, lose the pain.” You’ll still remember what happened—but the emotional charge, the triggers, the nightmares—they’re gone.
You stay in control of the process.
You don’t need to talk through the trauma.
You choose the positive images that replace the painful ones.
Why Is A.R.T. So Effective?
A.R.T. blends the power of eye movements with proven techniques from Gestalt, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Guided Imagery. These elements work together to help you move through stuck points quickly and gently.
Eye movements used in A.R.T. have been shown to produce theta brain waves—those same waves linked to creativity, intuition, and meditative calm. This helps your mind relax and open up to change.
What Can A.R.T. Help With?
A.R.T. was originally developed to treat Post-Traumatic Stress, but its benefits go far beyond trauma. Clients have found relief from:
Conditions A.R.T. Can Address
- Post-Traumatic Stress (PTSD)
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Eating Disorders
- Generalized Anxiety
- Depression
- Grief and Loss
- Sleep Disturbances
- Phobias and Panic
- Chronic Pain and Stress
Backed by Research
A.R.T. is recognized as an evidence-based treatment by the Society of Clinical Psychology, Division 12 of the APA. Studies show that many clients experience lasting relief in just 1–5 sessions. You can explore the growing body of research on ART’s effectiveness in treating PTSD, depression, grief, and more on the A.R.T. Evidence-Based Research Page.
What Clients Say
Clients often describe A.R.T. sessions as calming, empowering, and even joyful—especially at the end. The process is gentle, yet transformative. And because you don’t have to relive or retell your trauma, A.R.T. can feel safer and more accessible than other therapies.
