Not sure whether you need therapy, psychiatric care, or both?

Contact our team, and we’ll help you understand your options.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

You don't have to be in a crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people seek support for anxiety, depression, stress, relationship challenges, grief, trauma, life transitions, or simply wanting to understand themselves better. If you're finding that life's challenges are affecting your daily life, relationships, work, or overall well-being, therapy can provide tools, guidance, and support to help you move forward.

What's the difference between therapy and psychiatric care?

Therapy focuses on helping you understand your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships while developing healthy coping skills and strategies for lasting change. Psychiatric providers evaluate mental health conditions and, when appropriate, can prescribe and manage medication as part of your treatment plan. Many clients benefit from therapy alone, while others benefit from a combination of therapy and psychiatric care.

Do I need therapy, medication, or both?

Every person's situation is unique. Some people improve with therapy alone, while others benefit from medication or a combination of both. Our team will listen to your concerns, discuss your goals, and help determine the approach that's most appropriate for you. If your needs change over time, we can adjust your care plan accordingly.

How do I choose the right therapist?

Finding the right therapist is an important part of successful treatment. Our intake team takes time to learn about your concerns, preferences, age, insurance, scheduling needs, and treatment goals to help match you with a provider who is a good fit. If you're unsure who to choose, we're happy to guide you through the process.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes. We offer secure telehealth appointments for clients throughout the state of Michigan. Many of our therapists and psychiatric providers offer both in-person and virtual appointments, providing flexibility while maintaining the same quality of care.

*Psychiatric service INTAKE appointments MUST be in-person.

What ages do you work with?

Our providers work with children, teens, adults, couples, and families. Age ranges vary by clinician, so our intake team will help match you with a provider who specializes in the age group and concerns that best fit your needs.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes. Giesken Counseling Services works with many major insurance plans, and we also offer private-pay options. Our administrative team can help verify your benefits and explain any out-of-pocket costs before your first appointment.

How soon can I get an appointment?

Appointment availability varies by provider, specialty, and location. We work to schedule new clients as quickly as possible and can often recommend another qualified provider if your preferred clinician has a longer wait. Contact our office for current availability.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your first appointment is an opportunity to get to know your provider, discuss your concerns, review your history, and talk about your goals for treatment. Together, you'll begin developing a personalized plan that fits your needs and helps you move toward better mental health.

Where are your offices located?

We provide in-person therapy and psychiatric services at our offices in Flint Township, Grand Blanc, Clarkston, and Rochester Hills. We also offer secure online therapy and psychiatric services for eligible clients throughout Michigan.

Can I schedule a free consultation?

Yes. If you're considering therapy and have questions before scheduling, we offer a free 15-minute therapy consultation to help you learn more about our services and determine whether GCS is the right fit for you.

How do I get started?

Getting started is simple. Contact our office by phone or complete our online appointment request form. Our team will answer your questions, verify insurance if applicable, help match you with the right provider, and schedule your first appointment.
