Emily Merlo, LMSW, Clinical Director

I completed my BA in Psychology at Oakland University and my MSSA from the prestigious Jack, Joseph, and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University. My main specialization is in Grief and Bereavement counseling, but I also have clinical experience working with a diverse range of clients with different treatment needs.

Although I have some experience working with teens, my main focus is on treating adults in all life stages, including those aged 65 and older. I relate well to individuals who experience anxiety and enjoy working particularly with those who require a boost to their self-esteem. I firmly believe in the Humanistic approach to therapy, but I use a variety of different therapeutic approaches to provide quality care tailored to each individual's needs. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness are often part of my treatment plans.

Therapy can be an intimidating process, so my top priority is providing a safe environment where clients can relax and be themselves. I view therapy as a collaborative experience, with my goal being that clients leave each session feeling uplifted, hopeful, and one step closer to their personal goals. I believe that everyone can lead a happy and fulfilling life, and I am passionate about helping individuals on their unique journeys to get there.

“The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.”
