Timothy Sheehy, LMSW | Therapist in Clarkston, MI & Online Therapy
Life does not always unfold the way we imagined. You may be facing grief, anxiety, depression, the demands of caregiving, relationship difficulties, or circumstances you never expected to face. I'm Timothy Sheehy, and I offer therapy in Clarkston, MI, and online throughout Michigan — a place to better understand what you are experiencing, discover what matters most to you, and learn to live meaningfully within life's uncertainty rather than waiting for uncertainty to disappear.
Education & Credentials
I'm a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Social Work, with a focus in Interpersonal Practice and approximately 15 years of clinical social work experience. Much of my career has been spent supporting adults, older adults, caregivers, and families through grief, serious illness, and significant life changes. I am also completing advanced training in grief counseling.
Who I Treat
I work with adults and older adults navigating:
- Grief and loss
- Caregiver stress, including caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's or cancer
- Aging and serious or chronic illness
- Death, dying, and hospice-related concerns
- Anxiety and depression
- Family and relationship concerns
- Codependency
- Life transitions
- Self-esteem, stress, and spirituality
My Approach
My approach is person-centered and incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and compassion-focused and strengths-based approaches. I believe therapy should be collaborative, practical, and free from judgment. Together, we can develop healthier ways of responding to difficult thoughts and emotions while helping you reconnect with your strengths, values, and sense of purpose.
You do not have to have everything figured out. We can begin with where you are.
"Trying to define yourself is like trying to bite your own teeth." — Alan Watts
